Best sushi place in town.
Kamakura is a great place to go for a wide variety of occasions. I've been there with friends, birthdays, family dinners, business and organization meetings, and semi-formal events. The sushi is good, wait staff is considerate, and the management is accomodating to your needs.

Sub par Japanese dining in Champaign.
I can honestly say that the only thing close to good Japanese about this restaurant was the rice. The salad was like a halved head of iceberg lettuce with some tasteless dressing. The sauce for the chicken tariyaki would be better from a bottle at the store. The sushi rolls were mostly rice (which makes you fill up fast), but which leaves you with the distinct impression that it wasn't all that quality. The one good thing I can say is that the sashimi was tasty. If you were only going to have that, then you might be okay.

pricey, but worth it.
I use Kamakura as a Japanese steak-house for Teppan-style cooking. Fri - Sun call ahead for reservations. The food is awesome and prepared in front of you. The staff is courteous and makes the evening fun. Dishes range from $12 - $25.
